Description:
“Angles” depicts my book exploration as drawn object and subject. Using graphite on paper, I focused on capturing the physical form of Rupi Kaur’s “Milk and Honey,” but also the intimate moment of discovery when one encounters poetry.
Process:
The technical process involved careful planning for perspective and depth. Creating my guiding lines first helped me create basic angles. I then used varying pressures of graphite to create a dramatic contrast between the dark book cover and the lighter pages. There were numerous subtle text details and decorative elements to ensure they did not compete, but rather complemented each other. I intentionally angled this composition to create a sense of dynamic movement across the page, allowing the viewer to peek within.
The decorative seal on the bookmark and typography become more than just design elements—they’re part of the journey. I enjoyed playing with types here. The hooks and curves of the Serif fonts caught my attention, something I had previously overlooked. The challenge was balancing precise technical rendering with a more artistic angle and perspective. My intent was to construct an emotional experience of reading.
